Basements offer extra space that is valuable for a family. Having an extra finished bedroom, play area or entertainment area has many benefits. Potential buyers look for the extra space. Redesigning a few spaces in the basement does add value to a home.
Below is a redesign project that will be finished soon. The completed room will be a downstairs bedroom suitable for a boy. Here are a few things to consider when choosing finishes for your downstairs bedroom redesign.
- Lighting-Basements tend to be darker because of smaller windows. Adding pot lights is a great way to add more overhead lighting.
- Organization and closet-Having enough closet space is essential and having closet organizer is really nice to have. The client decided on a built in closet.
- Flooring-There are many great options for basement bedrooms. I personally like the idea of installing something like Dri-Core then laminate. Adding an area rug for warmth and texture is also a great idea.
- Paint-Choosing the right paint colour based on what finishes and lighting is in the room is important. I love to hang large paint samples on the wall. This is a great way for clients to see what the colour looks like in their room.
Have a great week see you Monday!
