Sherwin Williams gave us their colour of the year and I love it! Sherwin Williams colour of the year for 2018 is Oceanside SW 6496.
Oceanside is a deep and moody colour. According to Sue Wadden, director of colour marketing at Sherwin Williams “Oceanside is the colour of wanderlust right in our own home.” Sherwin Williams wanted a colour that was “both accessible and elusive.”
If you are living in your home and want a bolder colour then this might be it! Have a look at some photos below!
I am choosing some wall and floor tile for a bathroom that has been gutted. For a little inspiration I thought I would share with you some photos on Pinterest people love. I agree too, they are great!
From classic to contemporary soothing wall colours and gorgeous tile work seems to be consistent throughout. However, we are seeing bathroom cabinets in blue, black and of course grey. Gold accents in the bathroom along with beautiful sconces are very popular as well.
Glass enclosures for bathtubs for a more streamlined look is increasing in popularity. If you are renovating to sell inform yourself on what buyers are looking for. However, if you are renovating for yourself think about what you like and want in a bathroom renovation.
Have a great day!
It sure does not feel like fall in Ottawa right now. Can you believe this weather for September? Although it is blistering hot outside, Thanksgiving and Halloween are right around the corner. The corn husks and beautiful fall flowers are out in stands all across Ottawa. The front porch is a perfect place to add some fall colours.
Here are some great photos that might entice you to add a little colour for fall.
Prepping your bathroom for tile requires some work. You do not want your tiles to crack in a few years. Far worse, you do not want mold or moisture. If you are renovating your bathroom make sure you take the time to do things right.
Preparing your bathroom floors. Here are some choices of what you can lay down before tiling (sub floor).
It is of course important to remove the toilet, vanity and tub before starting. Sometimes prepping your bathroom is more involved than the actual tile work itself!
Have a wonderful day!
There are some bathroom considerations that can really make a difference between living with not just an awesome looking bathroom but also one that is functional. Over the years we have learned that some items we can do with out in a bathroom. Other items are essentials.
Here are ten considerations to think about when renovating a bathroom:
- Shower or tub: I love the option of taking a bath. I personally like having both a shower and a tub especially in a master bathroom.
- Shower nooks: Be careful where you put them. Sometimes putting shower nooks to the side is the best option for a cleaner looking shower.
- Shower basis: There are so many better options than acrylic shower basis.
- Toilet rooms: Some people I know call them stink rooms. Many people love them. They do give you a ton a privacy.
- Heated floors: Okay this is a splurge but if you are spending big bucks on your bathroom renovation it might be worth it.
- Lighting: Overhead, wall and ceiling lighting should always be considered.
- A window: I love having a window in a bathroom. If you are renovating and there is no window consider installing one.
- Drawer Storage: Having enough storage is essential, consider installing drawers instead of cupboards.
- Waterproofing: This is extremely important. Buying the right waterproofing materials like Kerdi Board is essential.
- Laying and grouting the right way: Tiles will eventually come apart and crack if you do not lay your tiles with enough mortar!
I probably pin too much, but I love looking at current trends and ideas. It is important when you are renovating and staging to maximize your homes equity.
Renovating can be costly. Mixing high and low is sometimes key. Bathrooms and kitchens can give you the most return on your investment.
During the renovation of our last house we decided to keep the bathroom and kitchen cupboards. They were in great shape, but we had them professionally spray painted. This saved us thousands upon thousands of dollars.
Finally, staging your property can certainly allow you to beat the competition. In general a staged home looks better and can sell for more with less time on the market.
Here are some top pins of my work for 2017!
I wanted the title to be “Creating a Master Bedroom Of Your Dreams Without Spending a Fortune” but it was too long. My goal is to have a beautiful maybe slightly coastal master bedroom that looks amazing but is also budget friendly. This can certainly be possible!
I am gathering some ideas on what I would like in our master bedroom. Our room is not large, so I do not want it looking stuffy. In fact I love airy, light filled master bedrooms. I am keeping all my furniture as well. After close to twenty years (yikes) I still really love our furniture. Our dresser is perfect for a slightly coastal feeling bedroom.
I would really like some type of wainscoting. I love and have always loved how fresh the bedrooms look at Serena and Lily. Their bedrooms photos are beautiful. Here are some fantastic photos of bedrooms that you may fall in love with too!
Now that kids are back to school I am gathering some ideas for our laundry room. Our room is compact but small laundry rooms can still deliver a punch for their size.
Laundry rooms can be overlooked, but they are important rooms that can get a lot of use. When staging they also get overlooked sometimes. Having enough storage and having a functional laundry room is important. Larger families really need a hard working room that can accommodate not only the appliances, but other essential items as well.
Here are some great laundry rooms that really deliver in style and function. Take a look!
