In addition to our usual routine, here are some of the extra measures we’ve introduced to promote health and safety:
- We’ve added extra requirements and increased frequency for disinfecting surfaces and deep cleaning throughout the day for all stages and de-stages. We will wipe down with disinfectant: any door knobs, light switches and surfaces we touch in homes we are working in.
- Our furnishings will only go into vacant homes. We are still taking appointments for colour consults and staging consults. We have stopped rentals on accessory packages for occupied homes.
- We are making sure anyone feeling sick knows to stay home.
- We will continue to follow updates and protocols from the World Health Organization and Government of Canada Public Health.
The goal of this property was to work with a budget and standard finishes from Mattamy. I wanted to work with standard cabinets but make the home not so cookie cutter looking.
The oak cabinets feel “heavy” but with a white, crisp backsplash and no uppers it gives the kitchen a fresher approach. Yes, there really are minimal upper cabinets! There is plenty of space (I think) on the lower cabinets for storage. A DIY hood vent was a great idea and Scott did a great job.
We also saved money by choosing a laminate countertop as well as all standard tile. The paint colour that I chose was a standard choice as well. To make the kitchen look like not your typical builder basic kitchen I chose different hardware and Scott installed some shelves and scones. Yes, you can work with oak cabinets. You just have to be a little creative!
Here are some photos. Take a look!
With one month already behind us, February is a good month to really start tackling the “what to do list” for the home. Here are a few things you can do right now to make your home a happy place.
Love your plants. Studies have proven that house plants improve productivity, concentration, reduce stress levels and boost your mood.
Avoid heavy drapes that block all light. Natural light increases endorphins and serotonin. Studies have also shown that workers in sunlit areas are more productive than workers without exposure to natural light.
Your home should reflect your personality and style, which in turn makes us feel happy. Show off your kids artwork or pottery. Style your home with colours that put a smile on your face.
A cluttered home can leave you feeling stressed. Finding items in clutter can be a frustrating challenge. It is also difficult to clean when there is too much “stuff ” lying around. This is a great month to start decluttering room by room.
This was such a great property to work on. I originally went to the property for a colour and cabinet consult. This property has been fully renovated and is on the market now. It was a joy to showcase this property as well. I have done a few jobs in Kemptville , and it is always nice to work locally. Take a look!
I am starting this year off sharing with you some amazing blue paint colours! This year Pantone launched Classic Blue as its “Colour of the Year”. The Pantone Colour Institute is important and influences a variety of industries such as graphic design, fashion design and interiors. Have a look at some amazing blue paint colours below.
Sherwin Williams Lakeshore SW 6494
I have used this paint colour as an accent wall and I really like it. Not too dark nor is it too light. It is darker than aqua but still reminds me of the colour of water you would see at the beach.
Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC-154. This is a classic, dark blue and works well with a crisp white or cream trim colour. Take a look!
Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue HC-143. Wythe blue is an amazing colour. At times it really does read more green than blue but with plenty of light this colour shines and blends both green and blue beautifully.
Newburyport Blue HC-155
Lighter than Hale Navy. This blue is also classic, it is a true navy blue and looks great with crisp white trim. This paint colour looks great in coastal themed spaces.
It is pretty cold outside, but this bedroom makes me feel like I am near a beach! I wanted our bedroom to feel serene, light and airy.
To keep costs down I used all my previous furniture. Scott installed the wainscotting, and painted. We did buy a new bed frame and ceiling light. Have a look!
Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Dulux have all chosen their paint colour “of the year” for 2020. If you are thinking about painting in the new year you may want to check these colours out. Have a look!
According to Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore’s Director of Colour Marketing and Development “First light 2102-70 reflects a new definition of the home-a shift in mindset from the material to satisfying the core needs in life: community, comfort, security, self-expression, authenticity and ultimately optimism.
Dulux states that Tranquil Dawn “embodies the nation’s mood on the approach of a new decade”.
Love, love, love helping clients choose colours. Paint can really transform any room. It is especially nice to see clients in Ottawa go bolder with paint colour and not be afraid of adding some colour to their walls. Here are a few colours I have worked with recently. Have a look!
