Kitchen Crush: Two Toned Cabinets!

Happy Monday!

If you are thinking of selling then you cannot go wrong with an all-white kitchen. White is classic and fresh looking. Cool or warm white-painted cabinets can give you that look. If you are thinking of selling you can always accessorize with different colours to give your kitchen a pop of needed colour.

If you are thinking about living with your renovated kitchen for a while or even thinking about refinishing your dated oak cabinets then you may consider two-toned cabinets. Still a hot decor trend for 2018, the look is absolutely beautiful. I am working on our kitchen right now and yes, I opted for white uppers and darker lowers. I love the look and could not be happier. The kitchen still looks bright, airy and light. If we do sell, buyers would love the kitchen.

There are many combinations that work depending on style, countertops and look you want to achieve. Oak and white, navy blue and white, sage and white all look fantastic.

Take a look!

Mudrooms That Work!

Happy Wednesday!

With almost every home Scott has built a mudroom. I am happy he did. Not only do we love them but buyers love them as well. Mudrooms are not only functional but versatile as well.

Mudrooms have many benefits but let us face it the extra storage is pretty awesome. It can provide a solution for sticks, skates or other sporting equipment.

Backpacks, coats, and boots all have a place to go and everything is so much tidier. Mudrooms can work wonders for larger families as well. Each child can have their own hook and cubby.

It is also a great place to let pets sit for a bit to dry off before walking through the home. Whatever the need they work!

I am missing having an organized mudroom and I am gathering some ideas for ours. Ours will be quite small but I have to admit the more I see boots splattered across our floor the more I am dreaming of one.

Below are some fantastic mudrooms that really do the job!

A Few Statistics On Staging

Happy Friday!

I hope you are all enjoying this weather. This weather has been crazy beautiful. Are we really in March? I wanted to share with you some statistics on Staging and the effect colour can have on a property.

This survey is from the National Association Of Realtors Research Department. The survey is based on roughly 1,894 usable respondents. It is their research based on Staging statistics for 2017.

  • 77% of Buyers Agents said staging a home made it easier for a buyer to visualize the property as a future home.

There is also an impact on Buyers viewing a staged home with 40% of potential home buyers more willing to walk through a home they saw online that is staged.

Here are the statistics for rooms that are staged the most:

  • Living Room (83%)
  • Kitchen (76%)
  • Master Bedroom (69%)
  • Dining Room (66%)

Let us not forget about the impact paint can have on a property! Although Zillow (US) is based in the United States their findings can certainly relate to properties in Canada. Zillow looked at 32,000 photos from sold homes (2017) and concluded that the wrong paint colour can deter some buyers and the right paint colours can help sell for more.

Terracotta dining rooms sold for an average of $2.031 less and properties with blue bathrooms sell for roughly $5, 440 more than expected.

Have a fantastic weekend. See you Monday!

February 2018 Colour of the Month-SW Acacia Haze

Happy Wednesday!

I am practically glued to the t.v during these Winter Olympics but I know I need to start choosing a colour for our master bedroom. Sherwin Williams Acacia Haze is certainly catching my eye. Part of their Sincerity collection Acacia Haze is a beautiful green with superb depth.

If you love the colour green then this colour may be just what you are looking for. It looks perfect as a backdrop with crisp white cabinets as shown below. Soothing for a bedroom as well. Acacia Haze is soothing, cozy and definitely fun!

Dover white is a great coordinating colour for Acacia Haze as well. Take a look below at some rooms featuring this colour!

Refinishing Kitchen/Bathroom Door Fronts!

Happy Monday!

Making key changes to a bathroom or kitchen can make such a huge impact. For a big impact refinishing door fronts, and boxes can deliver such a fresh look, without breaking the bank.

We have refinished door fronts, crown moulding in the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The transformation can take pink oak dated cabinets to something much more contemporary. Choosing paint colours that are neutral is a good way to please potential buyers if you decide to sell. We have always used a professional to spray the door fronts. We have taken all the fronts to them including the crown moulding and then painted the gables by hand. Bringing in your cabinet box can save time and the job looks perfect without seeing any brushstrokes.

Beautiful lighting, hardware and countertops can finish off the look. Whether you are staying in your home and want an update or planning to sell, a proper kitchen makeover can make anybody smile!

Sherwin Williams Top 50

Happy Tuesday!

I am already thinking about Spring. The weather has been so wacky I just want nicer weather to come. With nicer weather comes painting of course! Here is a list of Sherwin Williams top 50 paint colours to get you dreaming.

There is a mix of neutrals and more vibrant colours. I recently used Alabaster for a bathroom and it sure looks soothing. People cannot get enough of Sea Salt. I have seen it used so many times before. I have also painted a bathroom sea salt and it is a truly amazing colour. Totally beautiful for any coastal look as well.

If you are staging then a Certified Staging Professional can choose the perfect colour for your room. If you want a change in paint colour and you are planning to live in your property for a while then check out these colours right below!

Flooring Transitions!

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend with this freezing weather. Yikes I am ready for the beach. I am going to admit that this is a pretty boring topic but is relevant when you want to renovate. Flush floor transitions just look a lot nicer!

It is nice having flush floor transistions in the home if possible. We particularly do not like transition strips although I know sometimes it is just not possible. If you are renovating and want all the floors to smoothly flow into each other than here are some considerations to think about.

Example of bathroom height to hardwood

  • Use the proper materials. Ditra or DitraXL for the sub floor can work depending on the thickness of your tile
  • Plan ahead. Account for all of your thicknesses and don’t forget about the thickness of the mortar ( usually 1/8 of an inch
  • Dry fit all materials. Lay everything out to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Again, account for mortar
  • Take your time

Kinda of boring stuff but good to know. I hope you have a great week. See you Wednesday!

SW Alabaster

Happy New Year! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2018. I am starting the new year with a new bathroom and a new wall colour called Alabaster.

Although it has been freezing cold out there this basic builder bathroom exudes warmth. The bathroom is in progress but I cannot wait!

Alabaster SW 7008 is a beautiful neutral. It is not too stark but also not too yellow. I love this colour because it is beautiful and looks creamy on the walls giving you a warm feeling. Alabaster was Sherwin Williams Colour of the Year for 2016.

Happy New Year

xoxo
