Canvas Prints For Staging

3 Creative Tips to Add Interest to a Staged Home with Canvas Prints

Canvas prints are a great tool for sprucing up a home for sale. They fill the walls with vibrant color and compliment the furnishings and décor. They are also extremely versatile. They can be grouped, staggered, or stand alone. Many home stagers use canvas prints to add interest to the homes that they decorate. And you can too. Here are 3 creative tips for using canvas prints in your staged home.

Tip #1: Use Canvas Prints that Compliment the Furniture in the Room

To achieve a cohesive, well put together look, think of the furniture and artwork as two parts of a whole unit. Pair artwork with furniture to compliment it. Hang the prints so that visually they are four to six inches away from the furniture that you are pairing them with.

Tip #2: Consider the Function of the Room When Choosing Prints

Artwork can also help set the mood or tone in a particular room because colors have a psychological effect on people. That is why you should always consider the purpose of that room before choosing your prints. For example, if you plan to use canvas prints in a bedroom, choose serene, peaceful colors and scenes that signify rest and relaxation.

Tip #3: Vary the Positions of the Canvas Prints from Room to Room

When you’re staging a home, you are selling a dream or fantasy to someone else. So, the last thing that you want is for it to be boring. Canvas prints (or any artwork for that matter) hung in a straight line doesn’t really stand out. Be creative – stagger the pictures to break up that line. Or pattern and group them in unexpected ways.

Guest Bedroom Reveal!

Happy Wednesday!

Guests bedrooms do not have to be lack lustre. You also do not have to spend a fortune to achieve a beautiful bedroom. This is our guest bedroom reveal! It will work well for visiting guests and will stand the test of time.

For the walls I chose Sherwin Williams Rhinestone. Rhinestone is a beautiful neutral. I really love this colour and we have it in our kitchen as well.

I think the bed frame (from Ikea) is simple and is a great option for an affordable bed frame. The mattress also comes from Ikea.

I opted for one nightstand instead of two. Sometimes less furniture is more. Having two simply cramped the room and not leave enough room to open the closet doors.

I wanted our spare bedroom to be a permanent guest bedroom but making it a flex room is also a good idea if you are looking to put a desk in the room.

Artwork, linens, curtains and accessories are nice finishes that make a room really pop.

Sherwin Williams 2018 Forecast

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I was invited to a Sherwin Williams Colormix Forecast for 2018 and  I loved it. I really love colour so going was super special for me. Although neutrals work best for staging, colour consults for living are totally different. Some clients love colour and want anything but neutrals.

Of course there are so many influences that go into choosing the right colours for 2018. It is interesting to see what they are and how they do influence different choices in colour.

I love their sincerity collection. I am a little of a minimalist myself in my own home so this collection really relates to me. I also like calm, serene paint colours for my bedrooms so this collection works well.

The other two collections called Affinity and Connectivity are also very cool. SW Black Swan and SW Jay Blue are great colours. I would love to work with some of these colours for sure!

Here are some of my favourite picks!

Pearl Gray – SW 0052

Sashay Sand – SW 6051

Black Swan – SW 6279

Jay Blue – SW 6797

Homburg Gray – SW7622

Cleaning Your Grout Before Selling

Happy Wednesday!

Dirty grout in a bathroom can look a little gross. If you are selling or considering selling than tackling your dirty grout is a good idea. There is nothing like a clean bathroom to entice potential buyers.

I have tried many formulas to clean grout. A combination of baking soda and peroxide works really well. I like to mix the baking soda and peroxide to form a paste then I apply the paste onto the grout. With a small scrub brush or hard brush you can then clean your grout. It can be tedious but the end result can look amazing. It can make such a huge difference and make your tile look new again!

Boys Bedroom Redesign

Happy Monday!

The goal of this redesign was to build an extra bedroom.  Having an extra bedroom is nice, especially for growing families but also guests.

This redesign included all the elements of a renovation. Flooring, doors, lighting, paint and storage . The end result looks amazing and the room now is safe and a great boys bedroom.

Laminate and DRICore was chosen for the floor. The DRICore gives the floor extra warmth. For enough lighting the clients wanted pot lights and they look great with a flat matte ceiling. The clients originally thought about an Ikea storage system but then decided on a closet. There is ample room now for storage.

There were a few hiccups with the drywall but they were resolved and the room looks great. The clients wanted a blue paint colour and Indigo Batik from Sherwin Williams was the right choice. It is a beautiful deep blue giving the room a cozy feel.

Guest Bedroom Featuring Sherwin Williams Rhinestone

Happy Monday!

Thankfully there was no rain in Ottawa this weekend which made it extra fantastic! While I was outdoors a lot I needed to work on our guest bedroom. Having a guest bedroom is important for us. I thought about making the room a flex room but decided on having it solely for guests.

Having long term guests and having a room just for them is nice. It is an easy solution. We have in the past blown up air mattresses for kids, but for long term guests that does not work that well.

We also have aging parents that need a comfortable bed to sleep on when they stay.

This is going to be an easy bedroom makeover. The walls have been painted Rhinestone by Sherwin Williams. I LOVE this colour. It is such a beautiful soothing colour. Looks like an airy blue with a touch of grey. Other times it looks more white with a blue undertone depending on the light. It is a perfect airy paint colour that will work well for a serene guest bedroom.
